Label Roll Calculator
Estimate labels per roll, roll length or outside diameter from label pitch, lanes, core size and web caliper.
1534labels
1534 per lane × lanes, from a 65973.45 mm usable web.

Label pitch and lanes
Pitch is the repeating distance from the start of one label to the start of the next — label length plus the gap between labels. A roll can carry multiple lanes side by side across the web; each lane holds the same number of labels at the same pitch, so total count is per-lane count multiplied by lane count.
Roll geometry and assumptions
How this is calculated
pitch = labelLength + gap | length = π × (OD² − coreD²) / (4 × caliper) | OD = √(coreD² + 4 × caliper × length / π)The length formula assumes tight winding with no air gaps between layers. Real rolls typically wind 1–3% longer than this ideal estimate because of small air gaps, so treat the result as a close estimate rather than an exact figure.
Worked example
Core 40 mm, outer diameter 100 mm, caliper 0.1 mm: length = π × (100² − 40²) / (4 × 0.1) ≈ 65973.45 mm. At a 50 mm pitch (40 mm label + 10 mm gap) across 2 lanes: 1319 labels per lane × 2 lanes = 2638 labels.
Waste and remaining labels
Choose either a leader/trailer length or a waste fraction — never both, since combining them would double-count the same lost material. The remaining-labels mode reuses the same length formula against the current (partially unwound) outer diameter to estimate what is left on a roll already in use.
Production summary
The result table below is a compact print-friendly summary of usable length, outer diameter, per-lane and total label counts, pitch and whether a waste allowance was applied — export it as CSV for a production sheet.
- Winding assumption
- Assumes tight winding with no air gaps — real rolls typically measure 1–3% longer.
- Gross count
- Label counts are a floor of usable length divided by pitch, per lane.
Questions
Does the liner affect roll diameter?
Yes — the caliper used in this calculator should be the full web thickness (the label face stock plus adhesive plus liner combined), since that full stack is what's actually wound onto the roll. Using only the label's own thickness without the liner will overestimate roll length and label count for a given outer diameter.
How are labels across multiple lanes counted?
Each lane runs the same length of web, so the labels-per-lane figure (usable length ÷ pitch, rounded down) is multiplied by the number of lanes to get the total label count on the roll. This assumes every lane is fully populated with labels at the same pitch — a roll with unevenly spaced or partially empty lanes needs manual adjustment.
