Why people reach for this
Picture a realtor two hours before a closing, with the inspection report, the appraisal and the seller's disclosure sitting in three separate files. Or a student at 11pm, trying to turn five chapter exports into the single PDF the submission portal will accept.
This tool joins them in whatever order you choose, right inside your browser. Closing packets and contracts are exactly the paperwork you'd rather not park on a stranger's server, and here they never leave your machine, so there's nothing to delete afterward.
How to merge PDF files
- Drop two or more PDFs onto the box that says "Drop PDF files here, or click to browse", or click it and pick them from your folders.
- Use the up and down controls beside each file to set the sequence. The finished document follows your list from top to bottom.
- Press "Merge PDFs" and download the combined file. The button stays greyed out until at least two files are in the list.
Your files stay on your device
There's no upload step here, which means no queue and no "we'll email you the link" wait. Your browser opens each file, copies its pages into a fresh document held in memory, and offers that document as a download.
We don't set a size cap, either. The practical ceiling is your device's memory, and a stack of ordinary contracts or lecture notes won't come close to it.
If you're curious how it works, the heavy lifting is done by pdf-lib, an open-source JavaScript library that ships with the page. Once it has loaded, merging is just your processor shuffling pages around, which is why a ten-file batch usually finishes in a couple of seconds.
Watch out for scans, passwords and bookmarks
Scanned PDFs merge fine, but they stay scans. Joining them won't make the text selectable, so run OCR first if you want to search the combined file.
A password-protected file gets skipped, and the tool names it so the rest still go through. Compare the page count in the result against what you expected before you hit send.
One more quirk: the merge copies pages, not each document's outline. Bookmarks from the originals won't show up in the combined PDF, so rebuild any table of contents you rely on.
Page sizes mix freely. A landscape floor plan between two portrait letter pages stays landscape, so don't be alarmed when the combined file looks uneven in a viewer's thumbnail strip.

Questions
Are my PDF files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads each file straight from disk, builds the merged document in memory with the open-source pdf-lib library, and saves it back as a download. If you'd like proof, open the Network tab in your browser's developer tools and watch it stay quiet while you merge.
Can I change the order the files are merged in?
Yes. Every file in the list has up and down controls, and the merged PDF follows the list exactly as it's shown. Reorder first, then merge; it's a lot easier than fixing a wrong sequence afterward.
Is there a file size or count limit?
Not one we've set. What stops you is memory on your own device, and a 300-page scanned file eats far more of it than a 300-page text document. If a huge batch stalls, merge it in two or three smaller groups and then merge the results.
What if one of my files is corrupted or password-protected?
That file is skipped and listed by name once the merge finishes. The other files still combine normally, so check the page total in the result to be sure everything you wanted made it in.
Will the merged PDF keep links and bookmarks?
Page content, text, images and most formatting carry over. Bookmarks don't, and interactive extras like form fields or internal links can break in the rebuild, so flatten anything interactive first if it matters.
Can I merge images or Word files too?
Not directly; the drop box only accepts .pdf files. Turn photos into a PDF first with the JPG to PDF tool, then bring that file back here to join with the rest.
